Prison Uniforms
Inmates in prisons are required to wear uniforms. In the United States, they typically consist of a jumpsuit that is a bright color such as orange or yellow. The colors of the jumpsuits are meant to make it more difficult for inmates to escape, as well as make them easily identifiable if they do manage to escape the prison. In the beginning, inmates’ uniforms were black and white stripes; however, that changed due to the stigma the stripes were associated with. Now, with the disappearance of the stripes, people that aren’t inmates such as nurses are being mistaken for being inmates. For this reason, stripes are making a comeback.
